Making Movement Part of Your Day
Many of us feel like moving more, but struggle to incorporate it into our day. Whether you already have ways that you love to move or are seeking more practical options, use these ideas as a jumping off point, and tailor them to your own circumstances.
- Check out our YouTube Channel for movement breaks of different lengths
- Use micro movement breaks to relieve tension from sitting, manage posture, get in a brain break and more!
- Check out the CDC's guide on work activity breaks, and make sure you scroll down to the practical tips and activities starting on page 6. There are a huge range of activities, so you can pick things that are enjoyable for yourself or your group.
- Participate in Mountain Days virtually, by sharing your outdoor adventures with BCBSVT. If this isn't for you, check out the BCBSVT calendar of community events to find things that sound fun.
- Life is too short to skip the fun stuff! Find any movement source that brings you joy, whether it is puttering around the garden, tinkering, wood working, family time, time with pets, etc and schedule it in.
- Determine types of exercise that you enjoy, whether it is yoga, power lifting, or other. Then aim to get in a good balance of strength, stretching, and cardio. Aim to have moves that target the back of your body as well as the front. Many of us forget to strengthen what we don't see!
- Got Physical Therapy exercises? These have been determined to be especially valuable for you. Set an alarm on your phone, in your calendar, or leave a sticky note by your toothbrush to help remind yourself. If they don't feel right, you can always return to the practitioner who prescribed them and give feedback or see if your technique needs to be tweaked.
