Making the Most of Days Off
Bennington Battle Day is tomorrow!
How do you plan to use this mid-week rest day to let you come back refreshed & recharged?
Ask yourself these questions:
1. Do I need rest or movement?
2. Do I need alone time or social time?
3. Do I need to be productive or do I need to have some fun and lightness?
Once you've checked in with your needs, here are some days you could plan:
The Play Date
Be a tourist in your own town!
Look up nearby tourist attractions, take yourself out to lunch, walk around downtown, visit a nearby swimming hole, finally check out the local museum, and don't forget to treat yourself to a creemee! Enjoy this day alone or with family or a friend.
The Nature Immersion
Spend the day outside soaking up all the goodness summertime in Vermont has to offer!
- Take a hike
- Go kayaking, canoeing, or tubing (don't forget the sunscreen!)
- Explore on your bike
- Visit a swimming hole
- Simply sit in nature and observe your surroundings
The Catch Up Day
Set aside the day to finally finish those things you needed to do. Maybe you need to schedule a dentist appointment, order a gift for a friend, change that difficult lightbulb, write some birthday cards, mop the kitchen floor, pull weeds in the garden, or take the dog to the vet. Make a list, and cross things off!
The Nothing Day
Prove that you are valuable beyond what you can do or produce by taking one day to do absolutely nothing. Watch TV, read, play with your dog, or just stay in bed and stare at the walls.
The Creative Day
Have you always said "I'd love to take up _________ if I had the time!" ?
Today's the day to
- Start a painting
- Practice a musical instrument
- Draw or doodle
- Write (poetry, a short story, an op-ed, or a script for a musical!)
- Finish that craft you started
- Get moving on a home improvement project
- Decorate something that is otherwise plain
- Make that recipe
The Friend Hangout
- Try something new, like disc golf, pickleball, or a dance class
- Go to a matinee movie
- Have a board game day
- Try a new recipe
Choosing the activities (or lack of activities) that feels right on a day off can have wonderful benefits for your mental health and give you a fresh start when you get back to normal life!
