Life Balance: How to Transition from Work Life to Home Life
Wouldn't it be nice if once the clock hit 5pm, the to-do lists and emails would stop for the day? Unfortunately it's not that easy, but with a little practice, you can achieve a work-life balance that makes you happy. Consider these simple steps to get you started.
1.) Leave your to-do list at work. It will still be there in the morning. If you find yourself unable to turn your mind off from work in the evenings, try writing a list of projects and goals for the next day and leave it on your desk. Take comfort in having a plan set up for your next day of work.
2.) Don't stay connected. Unless you're on-call or helping out with a work emergency, stop checking your email when you leave for the day. If you are constantly checking your email all night, your mind never really leaves the office. While it seems simple, the physical act of disconnecting from the office is a powerful one.
3.) Establish a transition routine. Perhaps when walking to and from work, you could listen to some music and enjoy the time to focus on yourself. If you commute by car, download a podcast or audiobook. Regardless of how you commute, deep breathing can be a great way to shift gears.
4.) Make a ritual. Establish healthy habits that allow you to enjoy your after-work hours. Whether it is taking an exercise class after work, walking your dog or listening to music while you cook dinner, establish a routine and stick with it.
If you're struggling with these tips, try to do one of them a couple days a week and build up from there!

Yes, I find focusing on work, when at work; and then focusing on home, when I am home, works best to keep me most productive with both. I have also started making a quick 'top 3' list at the end of the day to help me get a good start on the next day. Thanks for these posts.
