It's Giving Tuesday!

You are probably familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday...but have you heard about GIVING TUESDAY?!? Today is a day meant to encourage seasonal giving.

#GivingTuesday launched in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, the UN Foundation, and numerous partners, the inaugural #GivingTuesday was hugely successful, fueling a dramatic increase in charitable giving. Blackbaud reported that it processed $10 million in online donations during the first #GivingTuesday, marking a 53% increase in donations over those received on the same day during the previous year.

Endorsed by celebrities, politicians and thought leaders alike, the initial campaign received 2.5 million social media impressions, with the #GivingTuesday hashtag trending nationally and ultimately being mentioned 185,000 times online.

Below are a few tips to maximize your own Giving Tuesday experience. These "gifts" do not have to be extravagant! They can be small gestures of gratitude or kindness. 1. Start Small.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

Identify your gifts, pick a cause that gets you fired up, and give back - not just for GivingTuesday on December 1, 2020, but every day.

2. Be Supportive.

Giving Tuesday is all about the power of community and giving back. So, why not dedicate part of the day to thanking another organization in your area whose work you’ve been admiring? Posts like this one from the Midwest Food Bank help show the great work that organizations can do together.

3. Try Matching Gifts

Because #GivingTuesday is an emerging national movement, it makes the perfect time to find sponsors and donors who are willing to match gifts. Donors love to know that their contributions will have a larger impact. Try to find matching donors that align well with your organization to help excite your base on #GivingTuesday; consider local banks, businesses, private foundations, or even your own board members.
