Simple Ways to Practice Self Care Every Day

We know that it's important to practice compassion toward others, but how often do we practice compassion toward ourselves? Self-care is an important part of feeling healthy and finding life-balance. Here are simple ways you can practice self-care every day.

1.) Eat healthy and mindfully
Would you eat dinner with a loved one while on the computer? Treat yourself with the same respect and enjoy a nourishing meal free of distractions.

2.) Keep track of your accomplishments
At the end of the day make a list (either mental or written out) of the productive things you've done that day. Did you nurture a relationship, go for a run, or tackle your work to-do list? Recognize these accomplishments no matter how small they may seem. The little things add up!

3.) Unplug
Social media, email, and technology have made it easy to stay in constant contact with everyone, but it also can be draining. Take some time to unplug and enjoy the moment you're in free of distraction.

4.) Create something
Whether it's baking bread or painting a picture - creating something can help us feel mindful and productive.

5.) Move
Being active increases feelings of happiness! This doesn't necessarily mean you have to hit the gym - go for a morning hike or bike ride, play jump rope with your kids, or dance around the house. Any little bit of movement helps.

6.) Create a cozy space
Building a space in your home that feels warm and inviting allows for you to have a safe place to retreat should you feel stressed out or need a break.

7.) Build a self-care kit
Fill a small box or basket with things that help you feel relaxed, happy, and calm. It could be your favorite scented lotion, a pair of new socks, a coloring book, pen and paper, a new book, a piece of dark chocolate, etc - the options are endless. Keep it in your bedroom or that new cozy space you created!

8.) Express Gratitude
Just like it's beneficial to appreciate what you've done, it's important to also appreciate what you have. Keep a journal by your bed and note the things you feel lucky to have.

  3. I have to say I believe in Number 5 I mowed the lawn yesterday and I felt better. I started out saying I will just mow the lawn them went on to cleaning up the picnic area and taking the dead plants out of the garden I only stopped because it got dark. I felt so good after.
