What You Think About, You Bring About

It all boils down to the Law of Attraction. Everything that's coming into your life you are attracting into your life. And it's attracted to you by virtue of images you're holding in your mind.

The idea is simple and very general: whatever it is that you focus on, think about and occupy your thoughts with will appear in your life. Humans, in this way, are like magnets. We attract into our lives whatever it is that our emotions, beliefs and thoughts focus on.

While stress and negative emotions can certainly contribute to illness, things aren't always so black and white. Be sure to never be hard on yourself about being sick. No one ever deserves it, and it is never helpful to be hard on yourself. Many people worry about getting cancer and don't, there are people who are afraid of getting sick and do not get sick, and then there are people who live a very "clean" lifestyle and are quite stress-free who do get sick.

The Power to Avoid (or Attract) Sickness
The Law of Attraction, however, brings up the mind-body connection, which says your mind can evoke physical changes in your body - for the good or for the bad. If you feel worry in your mind, you may feel it in your body. And some of these things are obvious to us like butterflies or heart palpitations, or you get diarrhea from stress or can't sleep. The not so obvious symptoms are those that can affect our immune system over time - most often caused by chronic stress.

There is a very real connection, which has been supported by numerous studies in recent years, that has changed the way doctors and scientists view the mind. The central nervous system is not just a passive responder to the outside world, but is fully able to control many previously unanticipated physiologic responses, including immunity and inflammation.

The Ability to Worsen Health Conditions
Studies have shown that your mind also has the ability to worsen many conditions. According to a report in the November 2006 issue of Harvard Women's Health Watch, emotional issues and stress may activate or worsen dermatological problems such as acne, hair loss, eczema, rosacea, warts, psoriasis and herpes.

While there aren't any scientific studies to confirm or refute whether or not thinking about sickness is enough to cause sickness, it is widely believed to be so.

Meanwhile, focusing on positive thoughts and healing can also go a long way toward maintaining and improving health. Being positive makes room for all the feelings someone has. There's room for all feelings and the key to unlocking the power of your thoughts is to acknowledge how you feel. If people have the chance to do just that, or they have someone they can really talk with who really listens and takes them seriously, they're going to have a better chance at being positive. When a person becomes sick or is diagnosed with a major illness, it may signify a loss of control for them. Using your mind to help the healing process - to make good choices for yourself and to take care of yourself - can give that control back, leading to less stress and the ability to heal.
