Father's Day is 6/17!!

Need some HEALTHY activities you could provide as alternatives to celebrate with dad on his "Big Day"?  We have put together a short list of ideas below.  Father's Day is next weekend! We want Dad to be happy and healthy for many more to come so get out there and have some fun!

1. Take a Hike

This is one of the MANY reasons to LOVERMONT...right?? Grab some trail mix and a bottle of water and get outside!  It doesn't have to be "Sunset Ridge," it could be a casual stroll.  Either way, it’s a great way to reminisce about the old days or catch up.

Walking is good low-impact exercise for all, and the fresh air and movement will benefit you both mentally and physically.

2. Go Fish

No, not that kind of Fishing....Although, cards can be a fun family activity after you catch some dinner!

You can stand on the shores of Lake Champlain, take out the canoe or schedule a charter! The level of effort is COMPLETELY up to you! The exercise and sunshine will do everyone good. You'll likely have plenty of scenery to look at (and some healthy competition if you’re both anglers).

3. Toss the Ball Around

So many options with this activity.  You could create a family or neighborhood competition or do some one-on-one bonding.  Young or old, you’ll both love slipping on baseball gloves for a little pitcher-catcher practice or going long to catch the pigskin.  This is both a convenient and inexpensive Father’s Day activity!

4. Take a Field Trip

If your dad loves museums, art galleries or historical sites, perhaps this is a great opportunity to accompany him on a little road trip. You can probably learn a lot from dad just by visiting a particular place that he loves and allowing him to talk about why it’s significant to him or the country.

5. Build Something Together

Many dads love the satisfaction of building something from scratch-  this Father's Day could be perfect for you and dad to tackle a project together. Whether your dad is putting the finishing touches on a piece of furniture or you want to create a masterpiece of your own, now’s the perfect chance!

The bottom line is it should be fun. Avoid springing a project on dad that he won’t enjoy helping with. It doesn't have to be woodwork, it can be as simple as a specialized LEGO sets that let you recreate the skylines of famous cities or a puzzle.

6. Prepare a Healthy Meal

140521flanksteak10After your outdoor adventure or trip to the museum, you can surprise dad with a home-cooked meal or prepare something together. Instead of throwing a 20-ounce steak on the barbecue, you can opt for something a little lighter and more heart-healthy.

Greatist.com has several healthier meal ideas for dad including ribs with a lighter barbecue sauce made from apple juice and lemongrass that isn’t so sugary and sticky on the fingers. If you really think dad will prefer some steak, consider a flank steak with pistachio chive pesto, as detailed on the website Chocolate and Marrow.com.

7. Show off your Green Thumbs

Tending the garden is something many dads enjoy. This is an opportunity for you and dad can plant new varieties or tackle something bigger like a landscaping project. Perhaps your dad has been putting off an outdoor project because it’s a two-person job. You could be the "two" this Father's day!

Gardening is a relatively low-impact and therapeutic way to spend time together, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) apparently classify it as a moderate cardiovascular workout. In fact, gardening for 45-minutes during the day can burn up to 300-calories. Now, that’s something you both can dig.
Have fun! Share your experience below, we love to hear from you!
