Indoor Fitness Ideas to Beat the Cold!

Did anyone find it challenging to fit in exercise on days when the temperatures were freezing? What can you do to stay on track with your exercise routine when the bad weather hits? The great news is that you can still stay fit by doing activities you enjoy indoors. One of the most important parts of exercising is maintaining a regular schedule it works for you. Check out some great ideas below to stay warm inside when it is freezing outside.

Circuit Training & Body Weight Exercises
Circuit training is an effective way to increase cardiovascular and strength fitness. Set up a series of stations that include an exercise for each major muscle group. Once you complete a set, move on to the next station until you complete a full circuit. Some examples are bicep curls using dumbbells, abdominal crunches, lunges, tricep kickbacks, bench presses and back rows. Using your creativity, you may focus on every part of your body getting an effective workout. A workout that uses your own body weight for resistance can be extremely effective for overall conditioning. Pushups, pull ups, planks, crunches, wall squats and lunges work your entire body. These exercises use functional strengthening as you must stabilize your body as you perform each exercise. Begin with the number that you can perform, and increase as you feel comfortable.

Bands

Playing
Turn up the music and dance around the house. Get out your games and challenge yourself to a game of bowling or Wii Fit. Make an obstacle course that you can complete with your kids. Include activities like lateral jumps over a line of masking tape, running up and down the stairs, jumping rope for a designated amount of time and doing lunges across the living room. Rent or buy a couple of exercise DVDs and try some new dance aerobic and strength training exercises. Movement is exercise.

Tension bands provide a versatile means for strength and endurance work, creating an excellent means of home exercise. You can work every muscle in your body with a    single band. Bands come in a variety of strengths, making it easy to progress as your strength improves. Use your bands at home while watching television or listening to your favorite radio station to strengthen your muscles.

Exercise Balls
Balls are another useful tool for home exercise programs. They may be used for balance training, core strengthening, and as a bench to perform your strength training on. Balls come in different sizes and will often include an entire workout program for you to follow.

Housework
Even doing regular housework is good exercise. Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors and carrying laundry are all ways to get exercise without having to brave the bad weather. Run up and down stairs or quickly jog from room to room while completing your chores. The end result will be completing your workout and a CLEAN HOUSE!
