Small Healthy Changes

Did you make a new years resolution to have a healthier year? Try making small healthy changes in your life that help you take steps toward your goals. Changing everything at once can cause setbacks when it seems too overwhelming. Try adding some or all of these healthy lifestyle changes to reach your health goals for the year!

1.) Shop Smarter
When you're at the grocery store, go with a list and stick to the perimeters. You may also try to divide your cart in half. Put all your fruits and vegetables in one half and everything else in the other half. That visual may help you realize what you're putting in your cart!

2.) Meditate in the Morning
Even just 5 minutes in the morning can be beneficial in helping you start your day off relaxed and mindful.

3.) Pick Up a New Pillow
One of the biggest reasons people don't get sleep at night is because they're not comfortable. Pillows lose their support after a year and making a mini investment in replacing them can help you sleep better!

4.) Move Throughout the Day
Sitting too long is not good for our bodies. Take breaks throughout the day to stretch, walk, and step away from the computer screen. Additionally, actually scheduling time for exercise is extremely beneficial to your health.

5.) Brighten Up Your Kitchen/Dining Room
Eating in a well lit space can help you consume less calories and make you more mindful of what you're eating by making you more alert. Try brightening up your kitchen and dining spaces.

6.) Plan a Garden and Dig In
Planning and growing your own fruits and vegetables will make you more likely to eat them!

7.) Break Your Sugar Habit
Cutting back on sugar doesn't just mean cutting out desserts and sweets in your diet. Sugar shows up in many of our foods such as cereals, crackers, pasta sauces, and more. The best way to cut out sugars is to incorporate more whole foods in your diet and read nutrition labels.
